Are you lost?  Have you tried to find us on Legion Road, Chapel Hill?  WELL, WE HAVE MOVED!   click on this link to find our new, spaceous American Legion Post Home.

After more than 65 years, we have upgraded and improved our facilities on a new siteWhere?  We are now at 3700 NC Highway 54 W, Chapel Hill, NC  27516.   Don’t get lost or go to our former home.  CLICK HERE FOR A GOOGLE MAP.

We are now open  for regular monthly meetings.   To say that we are proud of our new home is an understatement.  “If you build it, they will come…”  This our favorite line from the cinema classic, Field of Dreams.  It was one of our more significant “battle cries” when we were holding planning sessions long before the first spade of dirt was turned.

Our post veterans from World War II to current conflicts strongly believe that our new home was not for us, but for tomorrow’s returning veterans.  They have kids waiting at home while they are in one of the hot spots across the sea.  Maybe they are soon to be students, again.  Maybe there is a marriage coming soon.  Maybe they are already one of the hundreds of vets and “students on active duty” at Carolina, State, and Duke.  Maybe they are boomer sailors, aviators, or black shoe sailors assigned to a Navy ROTC unit while they prepare for a commission or a specialty medical degree.  Yes, these are but a few veterans we are readying our new home for.  Maybe we built it for you…

We are also here to assist vets in need, service families in need, and provide for children’s welfare.  We are also ready to help students with Boys and Girls State, scholarships, baseball, and scouting.  There are these and many more programs of the American Legion that serve veterans and our communities.

There are programs for members, our American Legion Auxiliary, and for the community.  We have even started up an American Legion Riders unit.  And, not to be overshadowed, some of our members reinstituted our Post Honor Guard.  What we do for you and our community is only limited by the dedication, foresight, and tenacity of our members.

If you are a veteran and you want to continue your service to your country, we are looking for you.  Sign up.  Then you can proudly say, “I AM THE AMERICAN LEGION.”

Our new home is an investment in the future of our Orange County Veterans. We gather at 5:30pm for socializing, dine at 6:30pm, and our Post meeting starts at 7:30pm.

Our post has been in Chapel Hill since post-World War I.  We formed in August 1919 and created a post on Rosemary Street, near the site of the former North Carolina National Bank building (now CVS).  We closed that site and moved with our naval artillery piece to a new site out in the “country.”

That country setting, on 35 acres, is now encircled with houses, a school, hotels, and office buildings.  So much for a country setting.

Our mission is to help veterans.

We have our Monthly Membership meetings the Second Tuesday of Every month.  We gather at 5:30 pm for socializing, dine at 6:30pm, and our Post meeting starts at 7:30pm.
