William Clay McDonald, Jr. age 91, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was an active member of American Legion Post 6, Chapel Hill, NC, for many years. He was a strong advocate of Post 6’s revitalization program and assisted with fundraising. He is pictured here with one of his hand-carved duck decoys that he provided for a fundraiser.
A graduate of Rockingham High School he attended NC State College and UNC Charlotte. He served his country in the Army Air Corps. Bill worked as Advertising Director of the Charlotte Observer Newspaper; the Tallahassee Democrat, the Chapel Hill Newspaper, and at Lowe’s.
Bill was a member of University Presbyterian Church of Chapel Hill, NC; past president of the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club; board member of Chapel Hill-Carrboro Meals-On-Wheels; and was a UNC Hospital volunteer.
Bill is survived by his wife Kathryn (Pat) Patton, of 66 years, his daughters.
