Bruce Martindale Passing

We are very sorry to announce that one of our long time members, Bruce Martindale, passed away yesterday. Bruce Martindale has been a member of Chapel Hill Post 6 for 44 years and served in the U.S. Navy as a Signalman in the South China Sea and Okinawa, Japan. Bruce was a resident of Carolina Meadows. Post Library Coming Back

Memorial Day in Chapel Hill

Memorial Day is more than a three-day weekend. It is a commitment by our post and other Chapel Hill veterans groups to remember those who died in the service of their country. Iwo Jima Remembered

Sixty-nine years ago today, thousands of Marines stormed the beaches of Iwo Jima. Their mission was to secure the island and the three airfields there. The fighting went on for several weeks, but on 23 February 1945, five marines and one navy combat medic (hospital corpsman) raised the Stars and Stripes over Mount Surbachi. Continue reading
