Dan Moore Passes

Dan Moore (right) enjoyed a good conversation with friends.

Lawrence Daniel Moore, “Dan”, died peacefully January 8, 2019, at his home in Chapel Hill, NC, at the age of 72.

Dan was a local boy, born in Chapel Hill, NC.  Dan graduated from Chapel Hill High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He served in the US Air Force and was a medic during the Vietnam War.  He then completed the Surgeons Assistant/Physicians Assistant program at UNC.  He was employed with UNC Hospitals in the Department of Surgery and Emergency Medicine as a PA until his retirement after 20+ years.

At Post 6, Dan has served as 3rd Vice Commander.  He was often found at the post supporting efforts to create a welcoming environment for other and new members. A “secret” of Dan’s was to take off for a quiet session of lawn mowing on our wide zero turn mower.  He very much enjoyed an opportunity to mow more than ten acres around the main post building.  It was solitude at its best.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 12:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 1050 MLK Boulevard, Chapel Hill. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM.

Burial will take place Tuesday, January 15th, at 1:00 PM in the Eure-Jones Cemetery in Swansboro, NC.
