Shopping Paradise for local teachers

American Legion Chapel Hill Post 6 has again made the post home available to the community through the East Chapel Hill Rotary for their Teachers’ Supply Store program.  Robert Oakes, past post commander and member of the East Chapel Hill Rotary, served as coordinator for this annual project.

The Rotary works with its corporate partner and the local Staples store (through the Staples Foundation) and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation to provide much needed school supplies to area teachers and education specialists.  Each teacher is awarded a voucher for $75.  They can used their voucher to purchase anything they find in the store.  There were at least 330 vouchers issued,  valued at $25,000,  and used during the two-day event.

Chapel Hill local radio station, WCHL-1360 a.m, provided significant coverage and have posted 29 photos on their new ChapelBoro.com community news site.  Learn more and see photos

One of the core values of the American Legion is service to our youth.  We were proud to be able to provide our post this special community service event to help our teachers.  Their personal sacrifices to provide an excellent education for their students benefits our youth.

A special thank you and recognition goes to Robert Oakes for  pulling it all together and making this event possible.  He is just one example of local Legionnaires making a difference in our town.
