Celebrating the New Year with a New Home

In the summer of 1919 a group of World War I veterans gathered in Raleigh to consider creating an American Legion Department for the State of North Carolina.  From that convention, local veterans from Chapel Hill joined together for a Chapel Hill Post and received their Charter on August 28th, 1919.

General Pershing Visits Post 6

Chapel Hill Post No. 6 kicked off their Centennial celebrations by joining with their local Army ROTC Unit at UNC Chapel Hill to sponsor David Shuey, who portrays General John J. Pershing. Mr. Shuey is a professional actor, “History teller,” and historic person re-enactor. He spoke in the persona of General John Joseph Pershing.

Department of NC to Publish Member Directory

The American Legion’s Centennial year is fast approaching. It is 2019 and we’ll be celebrating the assembly of American Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines in Europe to form the American Legion. The Department of North Carolina is also preparing for their their centennial. Part of their program is a project to create a 100th Anniversary Member Directory.
